During the 2015 Salone del Mobile in Milano, Geert Lebens was invited by PROOFFlab Magazine to participate in the editorial office as a guest editor. For the occasion the team existed of Jules van den Langenberg (curator, Studio Makkink & Bey) and Mirte van Laarhoven (guest editor, student Gerrit Rietveld Akademie).
PROOFFlab Magazine is curated by Studio Makkink & Bey and is an online magazine for designers, architects, scientists and artists, concerned with the future of the office landscape. The magazine is research oriented, meaning they actively ask designers and experts to contribute. Until the start off the Salone del Mobile, six Essays had been published on the website on a monthly base. During the Salone del Mobile program these Essayists were invited to present their publications along with designers whose works were featured on PROOFFlab Magazine as well. The program took place at Atelier Clerici from April 14 till April 19, 2015.
Geert Lebens focussed on the content of the daily programs and wrote a column on a daily base. Aiming on the Milan program he attempted to create a context around the themes mentioned in the essays and the positioning of the designers or the fields they seem to cross. Both contemporary as historical contexts are drawn. Other references differ from origin, from art to science and from a theorist to a paper plane machine engineer. Analyzing all these works and connecting the ends to unknown lines introduce us to new waters and fresh fish to hunt for.
The full column can be read on the PROOFFlab Magazine Facebook page. The work of Mirte van Laarhoven, Jules van den Langenberg and Geert Lebens will be collected and published at proofflabmagazine.com as a resume of the program.
